Three suspects sought in Newmarket armed bank robbery

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking assistance to identify three suspects following a robbery at a bank in the Town of Newmarket.  

On Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 shortly after 11 a.m., police were called to a bank in the area of Yonge Street and London Road for a report of a robbery. When officers arrived they found several employees and customers who had witnessed the armed robbery.

Investigators believe that three men entered though the front doors of the bank and began yelling at customers not to move. Two of the men were armed with handguns.

They made a demand for cash and the employees complied. The suspects fled to an awaiting vehicle, which drove away from the area. There were no physical injuries.

Suspects described as:

  • Male, black
  • 5’7” to 5’9”
  • 160 lbs to 175 lbs
  • Wearing dark-coloured hoodies and coverings on their faces

Suspect vehicle:

  •  Black Honda Civic

Investigators from the Hold-Up Unit remind business owners of the importance of maintaining and updating video surveillance equipment. Quality images help to identify suspects can aid in arrests and have a tremendous impact during court proceedings.
