22-year-old victim identified in shooting death in Newmarket

The suspicious death in Newmarket last week has been deemed a homicide, the investigation is ongoing

The cause of death of a 22-year-old woman found outside a house on Prospect Street in Newmarket has been determined to be a gunshot wound. The victim has also been identified. 

York Regional Police said Nicole Mercer, 22, of Toronto was murdered at the house, just south of Gorham street, on Friday, July 29 at about 1:30 a.m. She was treated by emergency services and taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead. 

A post mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound. Police have now ruled this a homicide. 

The investigation is ongoing and YRP is appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators to come forward.
