2 suspects flee with jewelry following Markham mall robbery

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking assistance to identify two suspects following a jewelry store robbery inside a mall in the City of Markham. On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at approximately 4:10 p.m., York Regional Police received multiple 9-1-1 calls for a robbery in progress at a jewelry store inside a mall on Steeles Avenue East and Kennedy Road.

Officers learned that two male suspects entered the store and began smashing the glass jewelry display cases with a hammer. The suspects fled through the north mall entrance and ran northwest toward the corner of Kennedy and Clayton Drive. The suspects were both described as male, Black, early 20s, approximately 5’7”, with thin-to-medium builds, wearing black clothing. The employee of the store was not physically injured. Investigators from the Hold-Up Unit remind business owners of the importance of maintaining and updating video surveillance equipment.
