York Regional Police have charged two Newmarket residents following an investigation into drug trafficking that began in early 2021.
Shahram Sadeghi, 51, and Giti Sadeghi, 48, of Newmarket are each facing four charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one charge for obstructing an officer.
As part of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at a home in Newmarket, according to a YRP news release.
Police said the occupants of the residence attempted to flush some drugs down the toilet but were unsuccessful.
Officers found more than one gram of heroin, 92 grams of crystal meth, 115 grams of cocaine, 103 opioid pills, three grams of fentanyl, replica firearms, muzzleloader long gun, brass knuckles, a butterfly knife, scales, cellphones and a vacuum sealer and packaging materials.
A search warrant was also executed at a residence in Vaughan where officers located 37 grams of crystal meth, 39 grams of cocaine, 69 grams of heroin, 70 grams of fentanyl, two pounds of magic mushrooms, packaging materials, multiple cellphones and a quantity of cash.
After searching a storage unit in Toronto, police also found a loaded .357 Magnum handgun, a pump-action shotgun, a 12-gauge, semi-automatic shotgun, a .22-calibre rifle, two conducted energy weapons, brass knuckles, a butterfly knife, Glock magazine, and more than 150 rounds of ammunition for the firearms.
Peddram Sadeghi, 25, and Shirin Samavati, 35, both of Vaughan are facing a number of charges following the investigation, including possession for the purpose of trafficking as well as firearm charges.
York Regional Police said they are committed to combating the distribution of opioids in the community.
