2 men charged in spree of catalytic converter thefts in Markham

York Regional Police seized several catalytic converters following a series of thefts in Markham.

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have laid multiple charges and has seized several stolen catalytic converters after a series of thefts across the City of Markham.     

Between Monday, May 2 and Wednesday, June 8, 2022, a series of catalytic converter thefts from vehicles were reported to police. Through investigation police identified two male suspects.

On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, investigators conducted surveillance and the suspects were observed committing a catalytic converter theft in the area of Jane Street and Dalrymple Drive in the City of Toronto. Both suspects were arrested.

Zsolt Szendrei, 35, of Toronto and Gaspar Horvath, 33, of Toronto both face charges of:

  • Seven counts of theft under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order
  • Fail to comply with peace bond
