14-year-old cyclist killed in collision in East Gwillimbury

A 14-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle is dead following a collision with a vehicle in East Gwillimbury Sunday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to a collision between a cyclist and an SUV near Doane Road and Centre Street in Mount Albert at about 2:40 p.m., according to York Regional Police.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The 36-year-old driver of a silver Hyundai Tucson was not injured and remained on the scene.

It is the second child riding a bicycle to die in York Region this month as a result of a collision with a vehicle. On Sept. 1, a 10-year-old girl riding a bicycle in Vaughan received life-threatening injuries in a collision and later died in hospital.
