York Regional Police investigators recovered more than $1.2 million in gold and silver, a loaded handgun and a stolen vehicle, and arrested four youth following the a robbery at a precious metals store in Toronto. 

Three masked suspects entered a store on Bloor Street and committed a robbery with a firearm Dec. 10, 2022 at about 2:15 p.m., police said. The suspects fled with a quantity of gold and silver to a nearby vehicle, in which a fourth suspect was waiting.

Members of the York hold-up unit were in the area as part of an ongoing investigation into the same suspects. The officers contained the vehicle, which was determined to be stolen, and after a brief foot pursuit, they arrested the four suspects without incident, police said.

Officers recovered a loaded handgun and $1.2 million worth of gold and silver, police said. 

Four youths from Toronto, two aged 15, and two aged 17, are charged with: robbery with a firearm; disguise with intent; possession of a loaded restricted firearm; possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and fail to comply with judicial release order.

Investigators believe the suspects are part of a group that has been involved in a series of armed robberies at pharmacies, currency conversion businesses and precious metal stores since November 2022.

One 17-year-old is also charged in seven unrelated commercial robberies that took place in York, Toronto, Peel and Hamilton, while one 15-year-old is also charged in two of those incidents. In total, 40 charges have been laid in this case to date.
