Police investigating after body recovered from water near Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara Regional Police are investigating after a body was discovered in Lake Ontario near Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Police received a call at about 1:15 p-m Tuesday from someone on a boat, reporting they had found a body in the water.

Officers recovered the body of a man about 500 metres offshore, approximately four kilometres east of the Welland Canal.

The remains have been sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for a post-mortem and positive identification.

The investigation is ongoing.
