It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of James Donald Waites, 72, of Newmarket, Ontario, who passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023, surrounded by family.
James, fondly known as Don, was born to Morley and Margaret Waites in Toronto, Ontario, on November 8th, 1950.
Don married Rose, the love of his life and best friend, in 1984 and they would go on to have three children together. Their 39 years of marriage were full of adventure and travel, with many laughs along the way.
Don is survived by daughter Stephanie Cart and partner Mike, daughter Alexandra Waites and partner Vincent, son Spencer Waites and partner Dayna, as well as his grandchildren, Lucy, Benson and Ruby.
He was a man of many hobbies and interests, including painting, woodworking, and all things car related. Don was known for his wit and unique sense of humour, but also for his love of meaningful conversation. Don's thirst for knowledge and his interest in learning new skills was and always will be very inspiring to those who knew him.
Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Don managed his illness with strength and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. He was a selfless man who dedicated his life to his wife, children, and grandchildren. Don was the rock to his family and will be deeply missed.
The family will be honouring Don with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 from 12p.m. - 4p.m., at their family home. Please bring your favourite memories, stories, and photos to share.
