Peacefully, with Elizabeth at his side, J.Douglas Snedden passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Roxborough Retirement Centre, Newmarket, ON. Predeceased by his son Paul Douglas Snedden, his parents David Morrison Snedden and Sarah Monteith and brother John ( Jack ) Hayton Snedden.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Elizabeth A. McCauley and daughter Debra A. Eltherington. Doug was the proud Papa of Mary-Beth Scrannage (Terry), Kimberley Laakso (Jonathan) and Aaron Eltherington (Erin) and doting G-Papa of ten great grandchildren Jack, Colt, Duke, Edan, Ryder, Hudson, Phoenix, Beau, Brad and Quinn.

Doug was born in west-end Toronto, attending Keele Street Public School and Humberside Collegiate. Following his 1943 High School graduation Doug joined the RCAF and graduated as a Pilot Officer, Navigator/Bomb Aimer. After finishing his service as a Navigation Instructor in 1945 he enrolled in Victoria College, University of Toronto where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He joined the firm of Clarkson, Gordon & Co. where he obtained his CA degree. He later joined the staff of the Hospital for Sick Children in April 1948 as Chief Accountant and retired April 1st 1986 after serving for 38 years, the last 16 years as President and Chief Executive Officer. Doug closed his professional career in July 1987 following 15 months as National Director of Health and Social Services at Pete Marwick and Partners.

During his working career Doug also served as Chairman of the Board of Managers and Sanctuary Construction Committee of Hillview Presbyterian Church 1962-1969, board member and President of WoodGreen Community Centre from 1962-1973, member of the Board of Trade of Metropolitian Toronto From 1965-1969, member of the Board of the Girls' Clubs of America, Toronto Chapter from 1967-1969, served as Honorary Associate Professor of the University of Toronto from 1977-1986 and member of the Advisory Board of the Queen Street Mental Health Centre from 1987-1990 as well as being a practicing member of various national and international Healthcare and Hospital Service organizations.

A very Proud Canadian, Doug was also a skilled home and cottage repairman, always allowing time for golf. He and Elizabeth adored their family life at the cottage on Lake Muskoka where they spent countless country weekends entertaining family and friends. Doug will be sadly missed by the Snedden, Monteith and McCauley clans, as well as his many friends. Doug will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Papa and G-papa. He was a man of honesty and integrity who treated all with kindness, dignity and respect. He has paid this forward to his family.

Family and friends will be received at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive Newmarket from 11:30 a.m. – 12 noon. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 12 noon.
