June 9, 1930 – September 20, 2024

Our loving Father slipped away peacefully in his home on the farm on Friday, September 20th, 2024. Dad was surrounded by loving family and precious caregivers as he joined the love of his life, Jean Muriel Hunt (Bailey)(d.2003).

David was the dear son of Harold and Eliza Hunt. Raised with brothers Edwin and Barry in Weyburn, Saskatchewan during the time of the depression. He knew the value of hard work and had an appreciation for lending a helping hand. This would carry on throughout his life as he touched so many with his support and giving. His contributions to the The BAILEY Group of Companies are highlighted by the values he helped instill in the culture of the organization. David was philanthropic to the core. He began The Hunt Family Charitable Foundation in 2009 and directed a legacy of giving to countless charitable organizations.

He was a loving father to Debbie (Domenic), Cathy (Peter), Pamela (Angelo), Stuart (Andrea) and John (d:2012)(Julie). Dad was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Family was special to him. David and Jean would regularly host or attend parties in honour of special occasions for us all. Celebrating the birth of their fourteen grandchildren was always a special event. Joseph, Lauren, Evan, Patrick; Caitlin, Bailey; Nicholas, Matthew, Christian; Ryan, Michelle; Cody, David, Mary. Grandpa was proud of you.

David had an appreciation for the simple things in life. Spending time with Jean and the family at home or at the cottage, a glass of wine with a home cooked meal, a good game of tennis, tending to the harvest in Jean’s garden, helping to make homemade chili sauce and jam preserves, chopping endless cords of wood and stoking the fire in the kitchen. David did love to travel, often to England with Jean and later with the family; Disney World was a highlight! David enjoyed many wonderful vacations with Edwin and Marian and Barry and Margaret, visiting parts of the world they found fascinating. It didn’t take much to make Dad content. Seeing those around him happy was reward enough and he tried hard to ensure that happened regularly.

We are proud of the man he was, what he stood for and what he accomplished and built over his lifetime. His legacy is strong and will live on in the BAILEY business, with his colleagues and associates, in the homes of the extended Hunt family, and in our hearts.

During the last several years, David was genuinely and fondly cared for by a team that we lovingly called, “David’s Angels”. Linda, Jona, Haruhi, ‘Ate’ Jona, Nikki, Zinab, Julia and Samsun. They have a huge void and will miss Mr. Hunt immensely. Our sincere thanks to Nurse Cindy and Dr. Longarini.

It is time to rest and be with those that have gone before you.
Until we see you again. Xo

A Celebration of David’s Life will take place on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024 from 4 – 7 PM at Old Mill Toronto – Guild Hall (21 Old Mill Road, Toronto, Ontario, M8X 1G5). All are welcome to attend.
