Peacefully in his 80th year after a long illness on August 1, 2022.
Married for 53 years to his loving wife, Lynn Ann (Swinden). Loving Father of Mark and his wife Diana Zajc, Bonnie, Ann-Marie and her husband Jason Powell, Katherine and her husband Stuart McLaren. Loving Grandfather of Ethan, Sydney, Owen, Brooklyn, and Rory Jean. Hugh was born in Toronto on May 20, 1942 and grew up in Leaside where his father owned Fraser Construction, a builder of homes and general contractor.
Hugh enjoyed several careers including construction and pursuing a flying career, obtaining a commercial pilot licence at Buttonville airport and becoming a flying instructor at the Toronto Island Airport. He later spent many years at the automotive department at Canadian Tire (Port Union Road and Uxbridge locations). Hugh enjoyed his retirement on a horse farm in Queensville that he and Lynn purchased in 1997. An avid automotive enthusiast and classic car owner, Hugh was well known in the Oldsmobile and Packard car clubs in the 1980s.
Services will be held on Monday August 8th at Taylor Funeral Home in Newmarket with visitation at 10:00 am and funeral service at 11:00 am followed by a reception. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
