02-Jul-1958 - 31-Aug-2022

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dana Caume on August 31, 2022, at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, ON, surrounded by his loving family. Dana’s untimely death resulted from complications of a heart medication that affected his lungs.

Born in Reserve Mines, NS, on July 2, 1958, Dana was the son of the late Raymond and Vera Caume. Dana was a kind and gentle man who would help anyone in need. His true passion was his family, and he will be sadly missed by Carol, his wife of 37 years, and children Krystle (Aaron), Tish (Larry), Kimmy (Bill), and Mike (Anna). Also left to mourn are his brothers, Jerry (Karen) and Dale (Cathy) and his sisters, Muriel (Murray) and Valerie (Steve). In addition, Dana will be missed by his nine grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, Dana was predeceased by his siblings Ray, Louise, John, Blair, and Wayne.

Growing up in Reserve Mines, Dana enjoyed sports and was involved in hockey, baseball, and soccer. Dana was a Montreal Canadiens fan and would enjoy watching the games in his little “shrine” containing lots of Montreal memorabilia. Dana took up golf later in life and enjoyed his weekly golf game with his brother Jerry and Newmarket friends.

Dana had an incredibly strong work ethic and was employed by the York Region District School Board for the past twenty-two years. Before joining the school board, he worked for over twenty years for CHT Steel in Richmond Hill.

Dana was a cancer survivor, and since his diagnosis in 2004, he never missed participating in the annual Terry Fox Run. In Dana’s honor, our family will participate in the Terry Fox Annual Walk/Run on September 18th in Newmarket, Ontario. Please support this cause near and dear to his heart.
