York Regional Police launched a new online portal in early November.

York Regional Police wants to teach you how to use its new community safety portal to help address crime in your area.

They are offering training sessions to help residents navigate the information in the online portal with ease.

"We're inviting you to join members of the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Unit for a Level 1 training session on the Community Safety Data Portal. Training will cover the standard functionality of all applications within the portal," YRP said in the event description.

Those taking part in the training will learn how to submit tips and upload digital evidence to the portal, helping with investigations in their area.

You will also learn how to view and track crime and road safety trends in your neighbourhood.

"Participants will leave better equipped to keep their families and communities safe," YRP said.

The organization launched the portal earlier in November.

The training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 30 from noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9 from 6 to 7 p.m., or Wednesday, Dec. 15 from noon to 1 p.m.

You can register for any of the training dates online and the sessions will be completed via Zoom.

This is Level 1 training and according to police. Advanced Level 2 sessions will be scheduled for 2022.
