We’re Newmarket Proud here at NewmarketToday.

We’re grateful to be a part of a community with unparalleled pride and spirit, as well as an inspiring commitment to helping others rise against the odds, for the betterment of our entire town.

We love to share the stories that highlight and celebrate those attributes, as well foster the engagement and connections required to build healthy, vibrant communities in which every person feels they have a place.

Of course, our town isn’t without its challenges. Poverty, homelessness, food and employment insecurity, ageism, and education inequity are among the disparities that were exacerbated by the pandemic in towns and cities across the province and country. Health care remains stretched to its limits, and the number of residents in need of emergency mental health and addictions care continues to rise at a staggering rate.

Sharing the stories of our residents and businesses facing challenges and creating awareness about the issues, as well as helping to find solutions and advocating for progressive change, is also part of our job.

To do that, we need to ensure that new and different perspectives are heard.

As part of our commitment to our community and transparent, fair journalism, we’re inviting you to join our Community Connections advisory board to share your insights and ideas about the issues that matter to our community.

We’re seeking people from a variety of sectors, and who represent a range of voices and diversity, including age, income, occupation, ethnicity, ability and gender.

You don’t need to be a member of an established organization, but you do need to be willing to share your opinions and engage respectfully with a group focused on creating connections, forming partnerships, building bridges and exploring solutions.

You’ll have the opportunity to write opinion pieces, collaborate on a series of articles and, potentially, a “town hall” event, and to help ensure NewmarketToday is covering the issues that are crucial to our community.

We’re asking you to commit to attending four meetings in a one-year term, beginning in May.

If you’re interested in applying, please send an email to [email protected] by April 14 highlighting your background and reasons for wanting to join the board.
