York Regional Police have been listed among the Greater Toronto Area's top employers for 2022, in an annual list by Mediacorp Canada Inc.

This is the seventh year in a row that YRP made the list.

"To be named one of GTA Top 100 Employer is an honour for York Regional Police,” said Chief Jim MacSween. “We work hard to ensure our members are supported, have access to health and wellness programs and feel welcome and included in a professional environment.”

The police service was named among several organizations that were evaluated on eight different criteria: physical workplace, work atmosphere and social, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time-off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement.

York Regional Police were chosen for a number of reasons including their parental benefits, which offer new mothers top-up payments up to a full year of paid leave, as well as parental top-up for fathers and adoptive parents, up to 35 weeks.

Another benefit was their pension plan and retirement planning to help their employees prepare for the future.

They were also featured for their handling of the pandemic with work from home options and enhanced protocols for onsite employees. YRP also launched an internal pandemic information page, hotline, and dedicated support email to provide quick answers to workers' COVID-19 questions.

YRP employs 2,377 people full-time and 85 part-time, according to the Mediacorp profile, and their longest-serving employee has been there for 43 years.

They offer health benefits, including for mental health practitioners, flexible work arrangements, training opportunities, and more for their workers.

Other top GTA employers included the City of Vaughan and Mars Inc. which has a manufacturing location in Newmarket.
