York Region COVID-19 vaccination clinics will once again be offering Pfizer vaccines to adults aged 18 and older after two weeks of reserving it for children due to supply shortages.

Starting Monday, July 19, both mRNA vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna, will be available at all York Region vaccination clinics with the exception of SoccerCity in Whitchurch-Stouffville, which will administer Pfizer only as of Tuesday, July 20, according to York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

Newmarket Facebook group pages have been filled with comments from residents searching for the limited second dose Pfizer vaccines in recent weeks, which has likely contributed to the waning numbers of appointments booked.

"I was supposed to get mine at Ray Twinney last Friday and when I got there, they told me Moderna. I walked out and got Pfizer out of town on Sunday for my second dose," posted one resident.

Walk-ins for first doses are available at all York Region vaccination clinics. Second doses continue to be delivered by appointment only and can be booked at york.ca/COVID19Vaccine, he added.

As of July 15, 79.7 per cent of York Region residents aged 12 and older have had a first doses and 62.4 per cent of those aged 12 and older are fully vaccinated.
