'Winning is amazing': Markham grandfather scores $1M lottery win

Neville Cassell of Markham is planning some home renovations and a vacation, as well as treating his friends, after winning a $1 million Lotto 6/49 lottery draw.

The father and grandfather said he plays the lottery twice a week and was heading to work with a friend when he decided to stop by the convenience store.

Cassell, a metal worker, checked his ticket and discovered he was a big winner.

“My friend jumped up and was so excited for me. I couldn’t believe my eyes, so I got my friend to double-check my ticket!”

The 70-year-old shared the news with his daughter, then told the rest of his family. “They were all so happy,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his windfall from Gold Ball draw on May 13.

“My friends are very proud of me, too.”

“Winning is amazing,” he concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Woodbine Avenue in Markham.
