What's open, closed New Year's Eve, New Year's Day in Newmarket

New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, is a statutory holiday with full closures affecting the vast majority of local businesses including banks, all government offices, the Newmarket Public Library, LCBO stores and the Beer Store.

All garbage/recycling/compost pickup is one day later the week of Jan. 1.

Christmas tree pickup runs from Jan. 7 to 10 and Jan. 21 to 24.

New Year’s Eve - Tuesday, Dec. 31

What's open:

All malls and shopping centres in the region will close early, including Upper Canada Mall (at 5 p.m.), Promenade Shopping Mall (6 p.m.), Vaughan Mills, (at 6 p.m.), CF Markville Mall (6 p.m.) and Hillcrest Mall (5 p.m.)

LCBO and beer stores open at regular hours and close at 6 p.m. Check the store locator section of the LCBO website here.

Restaurants, though many are reservation only, so call first.

GO Transit will have an early homebound late-night service and free rides after 7 p.m. Click here for the schedule.

Transit in York Region is free after 7 p.m. on all YRT, TTC, Brampton Transit and GO Transit routes operating north of Steeles Avenue in York Region. Service will be extended on select YRT routes until approximately 5 a.m. Community bus routes and Dial-a-Ride routes will operate regularly scheduled service. Check here for the full schedule.

What’s open:

Some health clinics and pharmacies. You can search for local pharmacies and clinics here.

All malls and shopping centres, including Upper Canada Mall (to 6 p.m.), Promenade Shopping Mall (to 6 p.m.), Vaughan Mills (to 7 p.m.), Tanger Outlet (to 9 p.m.), CF Markville Mall (to 6 p.m.) and Hillcrest Mall (to 6 p.m.)

Some convenience stores such as Circle K, gas stations and coffee shops, although holiday hours may apply.

What’s closed:

Most businesses.

Government services will be closed, including Canada Post, with no collection or delivery of mail.
