You can start ticking names off your Christmas list, or just enjoy the holiday spirit at the multitude of holiday-themed sales and activities in the local area beginning this weekend

Handcrafted Holiday Artisan Market

Come visit the Artisan Market Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — you can buy tickets for a VIP night market from 6 to 10 p.m. with drinks and hors d’oeuvres for a ladies’ night out — and Sunday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford St. in Newmarket. Hosted by the York Region Handcrafted Maker’s Association, you’ll find gifts for everyone there. The event is $2 or free with a food donation

Kingstone Stables Christmas Open House

On Saturday, Dec. 1, stop by between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Kingstone Stables for an open house with holiday spirit, including photos with Santa, horse rides, trail walks with goats and more. There will be shopping, Christmas crafts, a hay bale photo wall, hot chocolate and apple cider. Cash only for this event. Non-perishable food item donations will be accepted.

Located at 15790 Bathurst St. in Aurora, Christmas décor will light up the end of the driveway, and staff can direct you to parking. There are no signs for the farm but is across from the Heathwood Heights neighbourhood, the second driveway on the right, south of the St. John’s Sideroad and Bathurst street intersection.

Cocoa and Cookies with Santa

The Friends of Elman W. Campbell Museum are hosting Cocoa and Cookies with Santa at the Elman Campbell Museum Saturday, Dec. 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 134 Main St. South in Newmarket. Admission is free, however, a donation to the Newmarket Food Pantry is appreciated. Drop in for a visit with Santa before he starts travelling the world in his sleigh. Have your little one’s photo taken with him and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies with other families. The event is presented by the Town of Newmarket and the Newmarket Food Pantry.

Upper Canada Merry Market

Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket is offering a Holiday Market Dec. 1 to 24, featuring a curated collection of local, artisanal gifts and goods with holiday craft activities to get you into the holiday spirit. All craft events are complementary and available on a first-come, first-served basis. You’ll find the market on the lower level Davis Court, near Garage Clothing and Yogen Fruz. 905-895-1961.

DIY Christmas

Get in the festive spirit with Boston Pizza's DIY (Do it Yourself) Days of Christmas Dec. 3 to 6. Monday, Dec. 3 is SWEET B'S Christmas Cookies Workshop. 25$ includes workshop, all materials and glass of wine. Tuesday, Dec. 4, make your own Christmas gift with KB Bracelets, $30 includes all materials for an essential oil diffuser bracelet made with semi precious stones and crystals. The Local Market

Start your Christmas shopping with more than 30 amazing and unique small shops at the Local Market: Christmas Market Sunday, Dec. 2 in Bradford at the Portuguese Cultural Centre, 767 Simcoe Rd. Admission is free. A kids area and a visit from Santa are offered. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Celebrate Christmas

Get into the holiday spirit with Bradford West Gwillimbury’s annual Celebrate Christmas event Friday, Dec. 7 at the BWG Leisure Centre from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 471 West Park Ave. The free event begins at 6 p.m. with a tree lighting ceremony outside in Sunshine Square. Activities take place inside Leisure Centre, including pictures with Santa Claus from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and skating from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. Also offered are holiday craft activities and cupcake decorating upstairs in the multi-purpose room. 4th Annual Old-Fashioned Christmas Show

Join the Grandparent Connection and enjoy the 4th Annual Old-Fashioned Christmas Show Saturdy, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Newmarket Community Centre at 200 Doug Duncan Dr., with items from 80 local crafters and artisans. Also, there is a Christmas café hosted by the Lioness Club of Newmarket. Amazing prizes, music and much more. The event is free for all.

Bradford Legion Craft & Bake Sale

The Bradford Legion is offering great food and finds at its craft and bake sale Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 115 Black St. Lunch and snacks are available for purchase, admission is free.

Rustic Holiday Market

Country Cut Flowers is hosting its Rustic Holiday Market this weekend and next, Dec. 1 to 2, Dec. 8 to 9, beginning at 10 a.m. at 970 Millers Sideroad in Newmarket. Step into their rustic barn and be enveloped by the warmth of the twinkly lights, candles, Christmas trees, wreaths, urns and beautiful locally made goods. The Artisans Holiday Show and Sale

The Artisan’s Holiday Show and Sale takes place Saturday, Dec.15 and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. You can take in the event at the Old Town Hall on Botsford Street in Newmarket. There are many vendors participating, including Mahtab Abdollahi mixed-media painting, Hans Backer Photography, Jason Wighton Photography. Admission is free, purchases available on-site.
