Classic gets a beat at Splash of Culture concert Friday

Electronic music meets classical music at this free outdoor concert at Riverwalk Commons  Sept. 14 from 8 to 10 p.m. Expect a multi-sensory experience of lights, water, and classic and contemporary music with a mix of stringed instruments, loops and beats. This event features Dr. Draw, DJ Acote, the York Chamber Ensemble and Aaron Paris. Come early and bring your own chair. Rain date is Saturday, Sept. 15. Click here

Honour memories of loved ones at butterfly release Saturday

Share stories, express sorrow and honour the memory of your loved ones at Bereaved Families of Ontario - York Region’s 11th annual Memorial Butterfly Release Saturday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon at Fairy Lake Park near the main gazebo. Hundreds of monarch butterflies will be released in memory of loved ones lost. There will be live music and readings, children’s colouring activities and a barbecue lunch provided by the Optimist Club of Aurora. All proceeds go to Bereaved Families York Region. Click here

Follow in the footsteps of Terry Fox Sunday  

All ages can run, walk, cycle or roller blade the 5-km route for 38th Annual Terry Fox Run Sunday, Sept. 16 at Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, 100 Eagle St. W, to support research for cancer. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., the walk starts at 9 a.m There is no minimum pledge, no registration fee and you are welcome to donate at the event. Refreshments, snacks and a barbecue will be provided, as well as face painting, a kid’s corner, prize draws and a D.J. pumping out some great music. Click here

Southlake Cinemania roster kicks off with gala night Monday

Start your week with the Southlake Cinemania film circuit, which brings independent and award-winning TIFF films to SilverCity Newmarket, 18195 Yonge St., to support your local library. For the first 200 film buffs through the doors opening night of the Southlake Cinemania TIFF Film Circuit series Monday, Sept. 17, there’ll be a glass of wine and popcorn waiting for you. The 2018/2019 Southlake Cinemania series kicks off its eight-film run from 6 to 10 p.m. with The Leisure Seeker. For tickets, click here

Hosting Coffee Break supports Alzheimer Society
