Celebrate the Dog Days of Newmarket

Newmarket is going to the dogs this weekend with its annual Newbarket dog fest. On Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, bring your family and pooch out to Lions Park, 424 D’Arcy St., for all kinds of doggone fun. Your dog can go for a swim at the Gorman Outdoor Pool ($5 per dog) or try a lure course with Dog Lovers Days. You’ll see exciting dock-diving shows from Aqua Dogs and the kids will have a blast in the kids zone (inflatables and face painting). There will also be vendors to shop and freebies from Global Pet Foods and VCA 404 Veterinary Emergency + Referral Hospital.

Make a food pantry donation

Bigwigs Billiards invites you to drop in this weekend from noon to 5 p.m. with a donation for the Newmarket Food Pantry. Most needed items include canned meat, baked beans, spaghetti sauce, stew, chili, rice and kidney. Items for babies are always needed, including baby food, diapers and formula. You can also support the food pantry — and have a chance to win $100,000 — by buying Magna Hoedown Prospector's Raffle tickets from Patsy Hawke. While you’re there, you can watch the summer league playoffs — or play a game yourself. Bigwigs Billiards is at the corner of Stellar Drive and Harry Walker Parkway N.

Discover Newmarket foodies’ newest delight

The celebrations will continue throughout the weekend at Market & Co, the new 40,000 square foot space that brings together 20 best-in-class merchants and first-to-market eateries to create an inspired and memorable food gathering experience at Upper Canada Mall. There will be contests, promotions and free classes in the demonstration kitchen, including the Kids Breakfast Making Open House with in-house Chef Julian Pancer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Swoon Worthy Charcuterie & Cheese Board Making session with Seed to Sausage Meatery at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Then on Sunday, Chef Pancer is hosting a Kids Baking Sweets Open-House session from 2 to 5 p.m. For the schedule, click here
