Newmarket council will be taking a detailed look at its core assets such as roads and how to fund an infrastructure gap in the years to come.

The town will be holding a special workshop to address the management of its core services and assets Jan. 18, which also includes water services. Council will also meet Jan. 17 to confirm any resolutions on other initiatives such as transportation and an agreement on the Shining Hill development.

Here is what NewmarketToday will be following:

Core asset management

The municipality is hosting a virtual workshop to discuss the future of its core assets.

Staff is due to present about how to plan and budget for the future management of core assets as they age. The presentation will discuss different scenarios, and funding figures for an estimated infrastructure gap of $81 million in the next 10 years to meet high service levels.

The presentation will also highlight a 50-year outlook for those same assets.

The workshop is intended for information with council expected to make any decisions.

Confirmation of approvals

Council will meet Jan. 17 to confirm proceedings from prior committee meetings.

Council met last week to receive presentations about its progress on strategic priorities, a new community fridge and a regional master transportation plan.

The minutes of the closed session on a municipal capital facilities agreement for the Shining Hill proposal are also on the agenda. The topic was discussed entirely in a closed session Jan. 10, with no public discussion or resolutions coming forward. Town council has indicated it would work with the developer to secure benefits such as environmentally-friendly development in exchange for allowing the project to go forward in the southwest corner of Newmarket.

The town will stream both virtual meeting Jan. 17 and 18 at 1 p.m. You can view the streams through newmarket.ca/meetings or email [email protected] to arrange a deputation.
