Vince's, Garden Aurora dig in for seniors at CHATS therapeutic garden

Volunteers came out in support of CHATS clients who can benefit physically, cognitively and emotionally from outdoor gardening

Vince’s Market staff joined teams from CHATS (Community & Home Assistance to Seniors) and Garden Aurora Horticultural Society last week for the spring cleanup of the CHATS therapeutic garden.

“The Vince’s team had a lovely day with the volunteers from Garden Aurora preparing the CHATS wellness garden for the spring and summer growing season,” said Giancarlo Trimarchi, president of Vince’s Market, in a media release.

With the help of members of Garden Aurora, the team raised flower beds that were readied for the planting of perennials, which were donated by Vince’s, along with several hanging baskets for the pergola.

This project was created for CHATS clients, who can benefit physically, cognitively and emotionally from outdoor gardening.

"We are very proud to have Vince’s support and thrilled to be joined once again by our experts from the Garden Aurora Horticultural Society. Many hands do light work, they say, and within a few hours, our garden was ready for our clients to enjoy," said Kelly Broome, CHATS vice-president of philanthropy and communications.

Broome added that CHATS seniors have been growing plants, fruits and vegetables indoors since early April and are looking forward to getting outside to plant them.

The annual spring cleanup was also part of the United Way Day of Caring, which aims to bring the community together and demonstrate the power of volunteering.
