Five Vaughan restaurants were charged by public health enforcement officers for violating the province's Reopening Ontario Act last week.
In total, York Region's COVID-19 enforcement task force laid eight charges against businesses and individuals violating provincial measures, with 557 inspections conducted and 239 compliance education activities completed from July 5 to 11, according to the region.
Four of the restaurants in Vaughan — ATL Lounge, Sharks Club & Grill, The Burb Village Pub, and Island Mix Restaurant & Bar— were each charged by Vaughan bylaw enforcement for failing to make sure outdoor diners are separated by two metres or by plexiglass.
Island Mix Restaurant & Bar also faced two more charges for failing to ensure that patrons remained seated at all times in the outdoor dining area.
Cotto & Crudo at 357 Edgeley Blvd. in Vaughan was fined for failing to ensure indoor dining was closed.
Another charge was laid by bylaw officers in Richmond Hill at Crystal Beauty and Spa at 155 East Beaver Creek Rd., for a patron not wearing a mask.
In total, one charge was laid by York Region Transit, one charge was issued by the City of Richmond Hill, and six charges were issued by the City of Vaughan.
The fines amount to $880 for each charge laid.
No businesses or residents in Newmarket were charged, however, there were 118 inspections and bylaw officers undertook 33 education actions.
