Vaughan restaurant deemed health hazard following mall fire

A restaurant in Vaughan has been issued an order by York Region Public Health following a recent fire. 

Public health inspectors issued an order On Aug. 4 at Congee Wong at 1 Promenade Circle in Thornhill, Vaughan. An order is a written or verbal direction to correct a health hazard. 

Congee Wong was ordered for two offences. The first was that the premises was "operated in a manner permitting a health hazard" and the second was that a recent fire created conditions that "adversely affect the integrity of the food and the operation of the premises," according to York Region Public Health. 

Congee Wong is located inside the Promenade Mall. On Thursday, Aug. 4 a fire broke out in the mall, forcing an evacuation. York Region did not specify if this was the fire mentioned in the offence. 

Public health inspections are carried out regularly and any charges or orders resulting from the inspections are reported on weekly.
