Two restaurants have been charged by York Region Public Health following inspections between Aug. 8 and 14. The restaurants are located in Vaughan and Markham.

On Aug. 9, a complaint inspection was carried out at Bombay Touch at 43-7700 Bathurst St. in Vaughan. The restaurant was found not in compliance of handling food "in manner that makes food safe to eat (defrosting, processing, reheating, cooling and cooking)." Specifically, it was charged with failing to cool potentially hazardous food properly.

During the inspection the restaurant was also found to not be properly handling food "in a manner that prevents contamination or adulteration" and also failing to ensure equipment surfaces were cleaned as necessary, but both of these compliance items were corrected during the inspection.

York Public Health carried our food handler education on site and also took a food sample, as well as issuing the charge.

On Aug. 11, an inspection took place at The Relish of Chengdu, a restaurant at 1057- 28 South Unionville, Markham. This was a re-inspection following a previous inspection on July 28 where it was found to be in non-compliance on a number of items.

During the inspection on Aug. 11, the restaurant was charged for failing to have a certified food handler or supervisor on site during all operating hours. It was also found to not be processing food properly but this was corrected during the inspection.

Along with the charge issued, there was also education done on site, some product seized, and a re-inspection will be carried out there.

A charge is a provincial offences notice with set fines, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
