NEWS RELEASE
PROVINCE OF ONTARIO
*************************
Today, Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, was joined by Peter Bethlenfalvy, President of the Treasury Board and MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge, to announce that Ontario is investing up to $500,000 to support Markham Stouffville Hospital with early capital planning for the proposed major redevelopment of its Uxbridge site.

"Our government will end hallway health care by investing in hospital infrastructure and adding more beds in communities like Uxbridge," said Elliott. "Projects like the redevelopment of Markham Stouffville Hospital's Uxbridge site will help reduce wait times for patients and families and improve their quality of care."

The proposed project includes the construction of a new, modern hospital facility on the existing Uxbridge site to replace the current aged building. It may also include expanding specialized outpatient clinics and the creation of a community health hub with long-term care services to support patient-centred, integrated health care programs.

"Today's announcement reinforces our commitment to providing the people of Pickering-Uxbridge with world-class healthcare — both now, and for future generations," said Bethlenfalvy. "This is yet another way our government continues to invest in the programs and services people in our community rely on every day."

This project is part of the government's commitment to invest $27 billion over the next 10 years in hospital infrastructure projects across Ontario, adding 3,000 new hospital beds.

"Today is a very exciting day for the Uxbridge community," said Jo-anne Marr, President and CEO, Markham Stouffville Hospital. "We are looking forward to partnering with our community to plan a future health care hub on this site that will serve patients and families today and for generations to come."
