UPDATE: Heritage barn destroyed in fire at Brooks Farms

The Farm Market wasn't impacted by last night's fire and is open for business as usual at the popular Mount Albert destination farm

The large fire that destroyed a 150-year-old heritage barn at Brooks Farms in Mount Albert last night has left the family and members of the community devastated.

This morning, the "heartbroken" Brooks Farms family is expressing gratitude to the local firefighters from East Gwillimbury, Uxbridge and Stouffville fire services who saved them from losing their home on the property, too, and are ensuring the community the market is open for business.

A video of the devastating fire was posted on the farm's Facebook page last night, garnering hundred of comments from social media followers.

The fire started about 5:30 p.m. and firefighters were on the scene until about 2 a.m.

No one was injured, however, they were unable to save some chickens and turkeys from the fire.

An update on the Facebook page today: "It’s been an awful night for us at the farm. We’ve lost our heritage barn, part of the playland and there is damage to our surrounding buildings. We’re just so grateful for the Mount Albert and Uxbridge fire dept (and a few others) for their help preventing us from losing our family home. No one was injured - we are heartbroken but all safe....

"Thank you to everyone for your support and prayers. ❤️"

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Their market remains open today until 4 p.m.
