NewMakeIt (operated by York Region Makers) is excited to announce that it received a seed grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The funds from the grant have been used to create the Metal Arts Project, a series of workshops and classes in metal art topics, including jewelry-making, welding, blacksmith and sheet metal fabrication.

The Metal Arts Project was created to address the many inquires that NewMakeIt received from the community in wanting to learn and experience the different facets of metalworking.

“With the popularity of shows like Forged in Fire there has been a lot of interest in things like blacksmithing and welding. So, we are very fortunate that Ontario Trillium Foundation has enabled us to offer these experiences to the community,” says Ryan Dibisch, executive director of NewMakeIt.

To date, NewMakeIt has run 183 metal arts workshops/classes since January 2019, and continues to see excellent participation from the community in spite of the current pandemic challenges being faced.

NewMakeIt is a not-for-profit organization that supports creative, innovative and entrepreneurial endeavours to increase the social, cultural and economic well-being of a community.
