A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for the morning and afternoon for Newmarket.

Environment Canada has issued the advisory for York and Durham regions, with snow affecting much of southwestern Ontario this morning and advancing eastward.

There may be brief bursts of heavier snow with poor visibility at times. However, accumulations should be limited to a few centimetres, the weather service forecasts.

Strong wind gusts up to 70 km/h are also anticipated. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds will result in reduced visibility.
