Saturday fundraising gala showcases region’s talented musicians

The Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association Newmarket and Area Branch presents its 5th annual fundraising gala Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Old Town Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. All proceeds go to scholarships for local students in voice, piano, strings, harps and woodwinds.

You’re invited to enjoy a musical evening Saturday evening featuring performances by accomplished students and teachers from the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association.

The Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association Newmarket and Area Branch presents its 5th annual fundraising gala Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Old Town Hall on Botsford Street from 7 to 9 p.m. All proceeds go to scholarships for local students in voice, piano, strings, harps and woodwinds.

This year’s event showcases six young branch award-winning musicians:

  • Karim Khakimov, flute

  • Jasmine Leung, piano

  • Stylian Michailidis, voice

  • Gregory Vandikas, piano

  • Harrison Vandikas, piano

  • Tricia Wrigglesworth, voice

"We are proud that our students have reached high levels in exams and competitions. They are a shining example of the quality of music that exists in Newmarket,” teacher Linda Condy said. “The gala is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their talents with the local community." 

Some ORMTA Newmarket & Area Branch teachers will also be performing at the event.

ORMTA is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association, comprised of professional music teachers dedicated to providing the highest calibre of music education, and promoting music in their communities.

Students at a Royal Conservatory Music level of Grade 8 and higher can represent their ORMTA branch in Toronto-area competitions. Those at a Grade 9 level and above are eligible to participate in provincial events.

Come early to browse the silent auction before the show and during intermission. Suggested cost is $10 per person, $25 per family, and tickets can be purchased at the door.
