Main Street South will be closed for several hours tonight, as well as on Saturday, and surrounding streets for the weekend's holiday parades and festivities.
Tonight, Friday, Nov. 15, Main will be closed from 6 to 10 p.m. for the Main Street BIA's annual candlelight parade and lighting of the Christmas tree at the bottom of Main at Water Street from 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday's Santa Claus parade will close Main, as well as surrounding streets from 7 a.m. to to 3 p.m. Nov. 16.
Saturday road closures include:
- Cane Parkway (from William Roe Blvd. north to Lorne Avenue) 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Lorne (from Cane Parkway to Eagle Street) 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with access to Lorne barricaded at Andrew Street, Roywood Cres., Dennie Avenue and Towercrest Drive
- Lorne (from Avenue Road to Eagle) 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Avenue (from Lorne to Helmer Street) 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Eagle (from Helmer to Main) 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Water Street (from Prospect Street to Doug Duncan Drive) 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Main (from Water to Davis Drive) 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Ontario Street (from Main to Superior Street) 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Simcoe Street (from Main to Superior) 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Superior (from Ontario to Davis) 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Take note, parking is not permitted on Main from Water to Ontario streets starting tonight, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. until Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. Cars parked on Main Street during the closure may be towed, according to the Town of Newmarket.
Also on Saturday, Millard Avenue from Main to Raglan will be closed from 1 to 5 p.m. for a street party.
