Ring in 2020 with fireworks, family fun at First Night Newmarket

Free New Year's Eve event kicks off at 5 p.m. at Magna Centre with skating, swimming, entertainment, and more

If you’re looking to celebrate the dawn of a new decade on Dec. 31, 2019 with your family, friends and neighbours, Newmarket’s First Night event promises activities and entertainment for all ages.

The Tim Hortons-sponsored First Night Newmarket kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Magna Centre (800 Mulock Dr.) and runs until 9 p.m.

The evening is capped off with a New Year’s Eve countdown and a fireworks display outside in the east entrance parking lot.

Inside, revellers can enjoy a glow-in-the-dark dance party in the Tim Hortons gym, featuring live music by Switchbeat, a dance floor that lights up, and glow furniture.

Free public skating from 5 to 8 p.m. is available at the Bobby Forhan rink, sponsored by Sepra Automotive Boutique, as well as at the Scotiabank rink.

On the Newmarket Honda floor,  Mighty Mike - Vintage Strong Man, and DJ Tyler Stevenson will take to the stage to provide entertainment. There will also be inflatables, Pulsar’s gymnastics circuit, and face painting.

Free public swimming swimming from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Metro aquatic pool rounds out the New Year’s Eve indoor activities.

New Year’s Eve party-goers can enjoy free Tim Hortons coffee, and a hot chocolate truck, along with the Wickedly Sinful food truck, will be at the event to help quench your thirst and hunger.

A brief road closure on Fernbank Road, from Mulock Drive to Nellie Little Crescent, will be in effect from about 8:55 to 9:10 p.m. to accommodate the fireworks.
