Richmond Hill reviewing zoning bylaws for home businesses, parking, cannabis processing

The City of Richmond Hill is making progress in its comprehensive review of all zoning bylaws and is hosting its next series of virtual public information sessions this spring.

Zoning bylaws affect everyone and all properties in the city. They regulate land use, including where buildings (e.g. houses and offices) and other structures (e.g. sheds and cabanas) can be located, what size they can be and how they may be used.

At the public information centres, residents can learn more about zoning issues, trends and recommended options, as well as have an opportunity to provide comments about the proposed options.

Thursday, March 31, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

  • Home-based business uses
  • Residential accessory structures (e.g. sheds, cabanas)

Monday, April 4, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

  • Residential parking

Monday, April 11, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

  • Cannabis processing facilities

Registration will open approximately two weeks before each session. Residents can subscribe to RichmondHill.ca/ZoneRH to receive notifications as more information becomes available.

Quick Facts

  • The City launched public engagement in spring 2021 with a series of surveys seeking community feedback to help develop the recommendations that will be shared at the upcoming public information centres.
  • In fall 2021, public information centres were held to discuss topics including community uses, options for aging in place, redevelopment in neighbourhoods, shared accommodation, short-term accommodation and automotive commercial businesses.
