Families can now register students for kindergarten and French immersion at York Region District School Board (YRDSB) school for September 2022.

Children born in 2018 or 2017 are eligible to start kindergarten in the upcoming school year.

The school finder tool on YRDSB’s website can help families find the kindergarten program closest to them. In Newmarket, there are 15 elementary schools.

A number of supporting documents are required to register for kindergarten, including proof of your child’s age and two documents showing your address, such as a property tax bill, lease, proof of purchase, utility bill or other official government document.

There is also a questionnaire for parents to fill out, which will be given to the kindergarten teacher to help with your student’s transition to school.

Families can register for kindergarten online, or by email, phone and mail.

Registration for French Immersion is also open until Feb. 4.

YRDSB’s French immersion program starts in Grade one, so students who will be entering that grade in September are eligible to register.

Families can contact the school their child currently attends via phone or email to declare their interest in French immersion.

There are five schools that offer this program in Newmarket: Clearmeadow P.S., Maple Leaf P.S., Mazo de la Roche P.S., Poplar Bank P.S., and Prince Charles P.S.

YRDSB has released an information session video about French immersion.

Registrations received after the Feb. 4 deadline will be treated on a first-come-first-served basis.
