BLUE MOUNTAIN RESORT
Although the ski season is still in full swing at Blue Mountain, the Resort is looking forward to its ‘green season’ offerings. Visitors to Blue Mountain this summer will enjoy two new family-friendly outdoor attractions and improvements to summer season infrastructure. Just like Blue Mountain’s existing outdoor attractions, the new structures will allow guests to experience the area’s natural environment in an interactive way.
The new attractions include a netted forest adventure, comprised of bounce nets, treehouses, slides and a watchtower. The yet-to-be-named attraction will be suspended above the ground and located under a canopy of trees, near the bottom of the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster and close to the Timber Challenge High Ropes. Plans are in place to open the netted forest attraction in mid-July 2019.
A second family-focused attraction will be installed along Blue Mountain’s Easy Rider ski run for the spring, summer and fall months. Though not officially named, the wooden ball track will consist of three 30-metre modular sections of tracks. Visitors will follow a wood ball as it makes its way down through twists, turns and obstacles until it reaches the bottom. This is planned to be installed by mid-May 2019.
To better service guests, Blue Mountain also has plans to improve infrastructure such as public washrooms and shade structures.
The exciting new additions are part of a wider investment by Alterra Mountain Company into each of its North American resorts. Alterra, now comprised of 14 mountain destinations spread throughout six states and three Canadian provinces, is planning to invest US $181 million in capital improvements across its mountain destinations, including Blue Mountain Resort, for the upcoming year. The full investment plan totals more than half a billion dollars through the 2022/2023 ski season. It is focused on elevating the guest experience at all Alterra destinations, after an initial $170-million investment for the 2018/2019 season.
Plans for each Alterra destination are based on current needs and input from guests. They will enhance guests’ on-site experiences, while retaining each destination’s authentic character.
“The amount of capital that has been devoted to Blue Mountain is focused on the expansion of our four-season attractions. We are fundamentally a premier ski resort, but our spring and summer offerings mean we have something to engage everyone who wants to experience the outdoors, all year round,” says Dan Skelton, President and COO of Blue Mountain Resort. “Our main business pillars continue to focus on spring and fall conferences, skiing in the winter and spring and summer attractions. We are looking forward to our continued evolution in each of these areas.”
Other improvements coming to Blue Mountain Resort include a new retail logo store and changes to the Columbia adult and children’s stores in Blue Mountain Village.
“We are excited to announce that in Spring 2019, we will be opening a brand-new logo shop in our village,” says Chris Lewis, Vice President, Resort Services and Marketing, Blue Mountain Resort. “Expanding on our current number of retail offerings, we are dedicating one shop to a variety of Blue Mountain logo products ranging from souvenirs to sweaters, and so much more.”
The Columbia Kids store that is currently in the Village will be converted into a legacy Columbia store. The interior will be renovated for the upcoming fall season to offer guests a full range of Columbia products in one convenient location.
