MIDLAND, ON - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remind motorists, boaters and ATV operators to pay attention to safety while driving this weekend on area roads, waterways and trails in North Simcoe.

Officers over the past Canada Day weekend officers issued 89 Provincial Offences notices to motorists, 10 to vessel operators and three to ATV operators for violating laws governing safe operation for the drivers and passengers. Eight Impaired Criminal Code driving charges were laid after investigations were initiated by officers on patrol enforcing impaired driving legislation.

Officers hope that their education efforts to curb bad driving habits will result in fewer incidents this weekend on our roads, waterways and trails while families enjoy their vacation time here in North Simcoe.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways and trails. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
