Pet parents invited to grand opening of Newmarket Ren's Pets

There will be a "barktender," giveaways, and an official ribbon cutting with the mayor and Ren's Pets CEO

Local pet parents will have a new store to shop at with the grand opening of Ren's Pets in Newmarket this Saturday.

The new location at 17820 Yonge St. opens on Saturday, May 28 with a number of festivities in place to celebrate the occasion.

Mayor John Taylor is set to be on hand at noon along with the CEO of Ren's Pets Scott Arsenault for the official ribbon cutting, there will be a gift basket giveaway full of pet products, and the local SPCA will be there with tips and education about pet ownership.

There will also be a "barktender" there, providing high quality treats for all the dogs who come to the grand opening and take-home goodie bags for those who don't bring their pet to the store with them.

"[Grand openings are] pretty exciting. I mean, we get pretty jam packed and lots of people come out for them," said senior market manager Cassidy Scholtens.

Work is still being done inside the new location, with merchandising teams inside and the new sign just going up, but already Scholtens said they have had a lot of interest from the community.

"Already people have been calling and coming to the store wondering when we're open," she said.

She said Ren's Pets has been expanding a lot lately and Newmarket was one area where there was a lot of demand.

"Newmarket in particular was one that we really wanted to delve into with our neighbour store in Aurora," Scholtens said. "There was a lot of demand from our customers that we opened a Newmarket location. People were banging on our door for it."

She said Ren's Pets will continuing expanding into more communities. On top of this new Newmarket locations, a store recently opened in Stouffville and three other Ontario towns.
