Newmarket is bringing more live entertainment to the downtown with a new “Busk till Dusk” program.

Buskers will take to the Main Street area every Friday and Saturday night this summer during the dinner rush from approximately 5 to 7 p.m. The program began right away this week, with Glenn Marais and Manny DeGrandis, along with Bex in Motion performing June 24.

“We created this program to give artists a much needed platform, to give back to our regular visitors, and to add even more reason for those near and far to come down and check out our vibrant Main Street,” Newmarket Mayor John Taylor said.

The program will run from June 24 to Sept. 3, excluding July 1. The town said it feature everything from musical performers to dancing, juggling, mimes, busking, and more, with performers all seeking tips.

The town said it is opening up the paid opportunity to local and regional buskers. You can express interest by emailing Janet Raponi at [email protected]

“With 21 evenings and multiple designated performer areas available on Main Street, it’s a great opportunity for approved musicians and performers to get back out in the community and showcase their talent,” the town said in a news release.

You can visit newmarket.ca/busktilldusk for more information. This weekend, you can catch Bex in Motion around Main Street and Timothy Street June 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. At Park Avenue and Main Street, Zach Motjala will perform June 25.

“Newmarket’s historic Main Street truly comes alive on summer nights,” Taylor said. “The pre-pandemic energy we remember, of patios filled with friends and people touring our shops, is back and bustling.”
