A section of the Nokiidaa Trail will be closed for more than three months, beginning next week, the Town of Aurora announced.
The trail will be closed from the Newmarket bridge to St. John's Sideroad to allow for construction of a new boardwalk through the McKenzie Marsh.
Work to remove the existing boardwalk and begin replacing it starts Monday, Jan. 17 and is expected to be completed April 29. The Town of Aurora has hired Canada Construction Limited for the project.
During construction, no access is permitted on that entire section of trail and users are asked to respect the trail closure signage.
Residents wanting to use the Nokiidaa Trail in this area will have to use different access points, like the one on Yonge Street, just north of St. John's, or on Foxtail Ridge in Newmarket.
The Nokiidaa Trail system begins in Aurora, runs north throughout Newmarket, and ends in East Gwillimbury, connecting all three municipalities.
