Newmarket council is considering a one-month extension to the financial relief program the municipality began in March to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on residents.

The program created an amnesty from interest or penalties charged on property tax accounts until Jan. 1, 2021.

At their meeting on Monday, councillors passed a motion asking town staff to produce a report about the possibility of extending that deadline until Jan. 31, and what financial impact that would have on the municipality.

The motion passed without any discussion between councillors on Monday.

The issue will be revisited during the 2021 budget deliberations scheduled for Dec. 7.
