Newmarket wellness centre among 39 charges in York Region for COVID-19 violations

Thirty-nine charges were laid against businesses and individuals in York Region for violating COVID-19 public health restrictions last week, including at a Newmarket wellness centre.

Pinkys Wellness Centre, which is listed on several exotic massage websites, at 12 Vincent St. was charged by Newmarket enforcement officers for being open during the provincially mandated shutdown. 

York Region's COVID-19 enforcement task force conducted 2,062 inspections and laid the 39 charges, each with a total fine of $880, from April 26 to May 2. 

Richmond Hill bylaw officers issued four charges at Golden Break Snooker and Pool Club at 9737 Yonge St., Unit 103 to 105, for unspecified violations.

Vaughan bylaw officers laid a charge for "failing to remain at home" at a park at 398-356 Thornhill Woods Dr., Woodlot 8.

Perla Oyster Bar and Grill at 3901 Highway 7 West in Vaughan faces a charge for failing to close.

  • 7 charges issued by York Region Transit
  • 19 charges issued by York Regional Police
  • 1 charge issued by the City of Markham
  • 1 charge issued by the Town of Newmarket
  • 4 charges issued by the City of Richmond Hill
  • 7 charges issued by the City of Vaughan
