A small flock of fuzzy birds got a second lease on life with the efforts of the Town of Newmarket's animal services team and a basket.
In a feel-good clip shared on Twitter, the town said that animal services responded to a call from a resident who had found five baby merlins on the ground. Both the nest and the mother were no where to be found.

Animal services took them in to keep them warm, the town said, and contacted Shades of Hope and the Toronto Wildlife Centre to find out what they should do.
Officers made a makeshift nest out of a small basket, adding leaves, sticks and grass to make it homey. They took the basket and the baby birds back to the site where they were found. There, a forestry team member used a bucket truck to lift the nest and secure it in a tree.
As a happy ending to the story, the mama bird was seen flying to the new nest to be re-united with her babies.
