The York Catholic District School Board is celebrating Catholic Education Week May 5 to 10, 2019. All YCDSB schools will mark the occasion by hosting special events and activities that highlight their school community, as well as the significant contributions that Catholic education makes to York Region, the province, Canada and beyond.

Catholic Education Week is celebrated by Catholic communities across Ontario during the first full-week of May. The theme for this year’s celebration is Living as Joyful Disciples. This theme is inspired in part by the Pastoral Letter on Catholic Education from the Bishops of Ontario called, Renewing the Promise. In this letter it states, “Our Catholic schools help to form joyful disciples as hearts and minds are opened to the transforming love of God and to the flame of faith in action. On a daily basis, Catholic schools demonstrate the joy of believing and witness the Good News to the communities that they serve.”

Many of the special activities that York Catholic students and staff will partake in during Catholic Education Week will be service-oriented and will include charitable fundraisers, liturgies, community building events and daily calls for prayer and reflection.
