You are invited to enjoy a special gift on Sunday, April 25, when Music on Main (digital edition from Trinity UC) presents Seven Tableaux from the Song of Songs - at 4 p.m. (accessible after on YouTube).
Canadian soprano Lauren Margison joins pianist Vlad Soloviev in performance of Seven Tableaux from the Song of Songs, the intimate masterpiece of the late Canadian composer S. Irving Glick. Dedicated to his wife, these songs are both lyrical and expansive, simple and poignant.
The source material for this ravishing music comes from the Biblical Song of Songs, attributed to King Solomon, but, likely, a collection from a number of poets. The only Biblical text dedicated to romantic love, it is a lasting testament of the relationship between the divine and the personal, brilliantly told through the medium of Canadian art song.
Recognized for her ability to communicate with an audience, soprano Lauren Margison is making her mark as a young artist of note. An alumna of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, she was a member of the prestigious Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal, laureate of Jeune Ambassadrice Lyrique and she was the youngest finalist to appear in the prestigious and highly competitive Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg Vocal Competition.
A finalist and prizewinner in the 2017 George London Foundation Awards, Lauren went on to take first prize in the 2018 competition. She appeared as Mimi in a special presentation of La Boheme with Artists of the COC Ensemble at The Four Seasons Centre, was featured in the COC’s Elektra and was scheduled for Micaela in Carmen for Pacific Opera Victoria, a production that was postponed due to the coronavirus.
