The Ontario government is investing an additional $6.1 million into the construction of a new elementary school in Aurora, bringing the total investment up to $20.8 million.

The school will be located at Hartwell Way and William Graham Drive in Aurora. It will have space for 638 students, as well as 39 child care spaces in two child care rooms.

It is slated to open in September 2024.

“This funding is great news for our community and brings us one step closer to building the new Aurora 2C Elementary School,” said Christine Elliott, MPP for Newmarket-Aurora. “The new school will ensure families and students continue to have access to a high-quality learning environment for years to come.”

The provincial government plans to invest $14 billion in new schools across the province over a 10-year period, according to a news release. Since 2018, nearly 200 projects have been approved and more than 100 are under construction.

“By building a new Aurora 2C elementary school our government is preparing Aurora students for the jobs of tomorrow and providing safe and affordable high-quality child care to working parents," said Minister of Education Stephen Lecce.

For 2022-2023, the province is also planning to provide $1.4 billion in funding to school boards to maintain existing schools.
