Men wobble in heels to support abused women

Yellow Brick House is holding its 2nd annual Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event Sunday, Nov. 25 at Upper Canada Mall to support women and children escaping abuse and violence

Men, boys, it’s time to show your support by walking — or wobbling — a mile in her shoes.

On Sunday, Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, men and boys are being called on to don high heels in the Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event to help raise awareness about domestic violence and eradicate violence against women.

“By walking a mile in high-heeled shoes, men, boys and their families are showing abused women and children that they are not alone in their journey,” said Lorris Herenda, executive director of Yellow Brick House. “Together, we will walk — or wobble — to raise awareness about violence against women and children.”

Proceeds from Walk a Mile In Her Shoes directly assist the thousands of women and children who come to Yellow Brick House each year by providing safety and support to rebuild their lives.

Yellow Brick House has been empowering abused women and children for 40 years, offering a wide range of free and confidential services, including emergency shelters, a 24-hour crisis and support line, community counselling and support services and public education.

Registration for the fun-filled event is $35 for adults, and $20 for youth 12 and under. There is no fundraising requirement, however, walkers are encouraged to raise $150, the cost for Yellow Brick House to provide one night of safety for a woman or child.

Leading this year’s walk, as well as emceeing, is radio personality Rob Pagetto from 105.9 The Region.

Walk a Mile In Her Shoes starts at 8 a.m. at Upper Canada Mall’s #1 Entrance beside Forever 21. Registration opens at 7 a.m.
