Newmarket Desjardins agent George Rappos is matching donations made to Canadian Mental Health Association - York Region South Simcoe (CMHA) from now until Dec. 31.

He will be matching donations up to $10,000 and all the funds will go toward youth mental health programs including the Mobile Youth Walk-In Clinic, which supports people aged 12 to 25.

“As we emerge from the pandemic, we must all work together to address the critical issue of mental health with ourselves, our community and especially our young people,” said Rappos.

This is the third year he is donating to the organization and he said he is committed to supporting youth mental health within the community. He added that it is important to help youth get the support they need early in life.

"I know early psychological assessment and care of mental health challenges can lead to improved achievement in school and overall healthier lives for our next generation," he said.

Rappos is encouraging other businesses and individuals to join him in making a donation.

“We are thrilled George Rappos issued this challenge and gave everyone in our community the opportunity to watch their donation double this holiday season,” said Catherine Matzig, CMHA-YRSS’ senior director of philanthropy. “We also thank George for his fierce and ongoing commitment to the mental health of the young people in our community, this holiday season and beyond.”

Earlier this year, Rappos partnered with the national Canadian Mental Health Association to launch Insuring Our Future, which encouraged people across Canadian insurance indsutry to support their local CMHA branch. Over $56,000 was raised and plans are in place to run the campaign again in the spring.
