WATCH: Government launches COVID-19 inspection blitz in 'strategic locations' across the province

Ford has also hinted at further restrictions for COVID-19 hot spots

Update:

Premier Doug Ford announced today the provincial government is launching inspection blitzes in strategic locations across the province to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The education and enforcement campaigns are meant to ensure businesses are following proper COVID-19 health and safety requirements, says Ford.

Officers will be asking employers to produce their workplace safety plans.

Under the Reopening Ontario Act, a person or business not found compliant with orders could be ticketed with a fine of $750 fine. Where prosecuted without issuing a ticket and on conviction, individuals could be fined up to $100,000, and directors and officers of a corporation could be fined up to $500,000. Any individual convicted of an offence under the Reopening Ontario Act could also receive a term of imprisonment of up to one year. The maximum fine for a corporation convicted is $10,000,000.

According to a press release issued by the province today, the most common areas of non-compliance during all campaigns to date have been improper mask use, lack of screening, and improper sanitization.

A campaign is currently underway in Waterloo Region and additional campaigns are being planned for seven new communities including Eastern Ontario, York Region, Ottawa and Toronto.
